Bienenstock Competition

I began the 2018 Fall Semester, as a second year Interior Design student.  In Commercial Design II, we will be focusing on a national competition that is open to all Interior Design school in the United States, call Bienenstock.  The intended goal of this competition is to complete a residential and commercial project that is set to specifications described below.

The competition this year is to be a holistic day spa specializing therapeutic treatment for multiple sclerosis patients at the base of a mountain, which is surrounded by a park. This spa is owned and managed by a doctor and physical therapist, Pat and Chris Helf.  Conveniently, Pat and Chris live in 1000 square feet of the approximately 4,600 square feet of the building.  It is our assignment to design this facility being mindful of the importance to reduce stress and outside pressures by providing a serene environment for the patients.

The first step in this project was to start creating a concept for it’s design, name of spa, location, and then create a logo.  I decided to locate my Wellness Spa in Jackson Hole, Wyoming using the natural beauty of the landscape.  The spa will focus on holistic medical treatment, hydrotherapy, floor exercise, outdoor activities, and animal therapy.  The design of the spa will have a rustic & western design and with luxury.

The name of the wellness spa is Hózhó Wellness Spa. The word hózhó is a word found in Navajo Native Americans that are local to the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area.  The actual term hózhó means to have a life of harmony, balance, peace, and beauty.  Below is the logo design that I created to best fit my design concept.
