Pantone Color of the Year 2018: Ultra Violet

The Pantone Color of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet. Ultra Violet is a hue that is majestic, mysterious, and for the visionary. Violet is a color that evokes an array of emotion.

Since violet is a rare color in nature, it is the most precious and sacred color. It is one of the most expensive colors to create or dye. After all, this is why royalty, nobility, priests, and those of power wore the color. Violet represents multiple meanings such as, wealth, creativity, wisdom, devotion, dignity, mystery, peace, and magic.

With all of these different emotions that violet can be associated with, it’s important to breakdown our understanding of the shades, tints, and hues. The color violet retains both warm and cool properties.

  • Light Violet-Symbolizes feminine energy, gracefulness, as well as, romantic feelings.
  • Dark Violet– Suggest feelings of despair, sorrow and frustration.
  • Bright Violet– Evokes riches and royalty.

The many names of violet: Plum, lavender, lilac, orchid, mauve, amethyst, pomegranate & eggplant.
